Surface Phone Leak Reveals Dual Screens, 360 Hinge

Microsoft's mysterious Surface Phone is still just a rumor, but new information has come to light.

Twitter user WalkingCat has discovered new APIs in the latest compilation of Windows 10 tests, which indicate that the phone has a hinge. This means that Microsoft, like the giants of mobile phone manufacturing, Apple, and Samsung, could enter a war on dual-screen phones.

The mentioned APIs mention that the operating system can respond to the "hinge state" of the device and assign different values to Unknown, Closed, Concave, Level, Convex, and Full. Other parts of the code mention tags like HingeAngleSensor and HingeAngleReading.

This means that the phone is not just doubled, but the phone software knows your location and reacts accordingly. In Business mode, you can simultaneously see something with a friend on the other side of the table, while in a concave mode you can use the lower screen to type like a keyboard on the top screen.

Motorola has patented a sophisticated system to prevent the screen of a foldable phone from wrinkling due to heat. Meanwhile, Apple is working on a flexible battery cell that would double with the screen.

In May, an earlier version of Windows 10 referred to "Andromeda OS" and "Factory OS Andromeda Device." Andromeda is a code name that Microsoft assigns to newer versions of Windows for specific devices, which means it can be a new operating system for Surface Phone. The code also included Windows Core, a modular version of Windows that could integrate cell-based functionality.

All of this is speculative, but I hope we will learn more about this mysterious device in the coming months.
